Chinese Arts and Music Association will be presenting its 23rd annual music celebration along with a wide panoply of cultural gems from a 9,000 years-old Chinese tradition titled "A Touch of the Orient - East Meets West." The foremost visual artistry of Budong Zhao will be exhibited in the lobby of Meany Hall at 1:00 p.m., complemented with the ancient musical sound of the Orient.

At 2:30 p.m., the featured show of the day will begin displaying the talents of Buyun Zhao and her NW JIGU Ensemble. Buyun Zhao is the director of the Washington Chinese Youth Orchestra. She is considered one of the world's foremost performers on the GuZheng (zither), the lute (PiPa) and the dulcimer (YangQin). Prior to immigrating to the United States, Buyun Zhao became a familiar and well known figure on the Chinese stage when she became China's first female jazz drummer. Upon joining the Chinese Arts and Music Association, Buyun founded and became the director of the Chinese youth drum corps.

Joining the cast of players in the combined youth and adult orchestras, special conductor Roger Nelson will take to the podium to conduct the orchestra and soloists which will include Warren Chang on the Erhu and Wayne Yee on the bamboo flute.
